We have often told of the moment when the sacred world of money in New York collapsed for our father Daniel and he turned to an even more precious good – time. Now we, the «Watchbros» Massimo and Leonard, tell about our moment that changed our lives.

Daniel Dreifuss, the most restless father you can imagine, mentioned almost casually a year ago that he would soon be «out». He doesn’t want to have the heart attack that too many get who don’t stop in time. And what does it look like if someone who sells the best time does not allow himself it. That would look bad. But our father didn’t want to look bad.

Even if he likes to break all the rules with his style of clothing – which some find brilliant, others take getting used to – this style is an expression of his specialty, the fruits of which nourish us today. Extraordinary watches by an extraordinary man with an extraordinary life.

How the brand name Maurice de Mauriac came about has already been excellently written about. It is the way in which he tested his first watches that should get a lot more attention. He used to commute often by train through Switzerland and a watch was only good if he could sell it on the train before he reached his destination after an hour. For that you need damn good watches and a great sales talent. Our father already had both at the time. And he gave us both of these things to take on the new path that my brother and I took: to take over and run the company.

We were sent out into the world to get to know it, we were sent into the studio so that, over time, we would know and be able to do everything that defines a watch brand. Our father kept sending us home, to Zurich, and on social media to become part of the big family for which he did everything and still does today.

We are a family business. Not as dusty or as heavily laden as it often feels in other family businesses. Our understanding of family is shaped by great love, freedom and yet also great intimacy. All important factors for what makes us particularly successful – the trust that all of this generates internally and externally. Who as a family has personal contact with a digital community that includes several hundred thousand people around the world? Who has Zurich as a guest in the studio every day and who has the whole world because you meet the family there in the studio? First you met my father, then all of us together, now more and more just the two of us.

As little boys we learned to read the clock on dad’s clock, then we learned how to read clocks so we could make new clocks, and now we make clocks ourselves. Our father taught us everything he knows, and that’s an awful lot. For everything else, he brought extraordinary people into the studio, from whom we could learn or who sent us out into the world to learn from her.

Our thank you to him was to dedicate a grandiose watch to him – the first for which we were responsible, the Grand Cœur. It builds on his latest stroke of genius. The hand-wound L3 sees red with red glass, from the completed L series with the L1, L2 and L3 watches. This L-series carries the DNA of the Maurice de Mauriac brand and with the three watch models L1, L2 and L3 has created three watch icons that will remain.

The very large web shops for lifestyle and watches are open to us with this watch tryptichon. Not easy in an industry that is dominated by a few very large brands. But easy was never an option for Maurice de Mauriac. This is how we sell to this day, except for a few. When the studio door slams shut in the evening, the last espresso has hummed from the machine, friends and customers have left, the robot vacuum cleaners start their bizarre dance and in the background you can hear the soft ping, when again We receive a purchase digitally, because when we are private, need rest, need to recharge our batteries, then hundreds and thousands of stories about us, our watches and the people who love our watches are on the go and sell around the world. Not primarily watches, but us, our story, that of my father, which we will now pass on. And that’s what sells our watches.

Daniel, the most restless father of all, has meanwhile surprised everyone that he can let go and also loves peace. He loves her with his wife in Italy.

Sie trägt alle gemeinsamen Werte in sich – und mehr: Denn sie hat einen Handaufzug, braucht also das persönliche Engagement. Eine L3, auch im KENSINGTON-Design, ist so zeitlos und stilsicher, dass man damit auf der ganzen Welt wirken wird. Sicher. Und das ist extrem wichtig, weil beide Marken die Welt als Markt sehen und haben. Wer das auch erkannt hat, ist der Schweizer Fußballstar Stephan Lichtsteiner, der gerade ein Praktikum bei uns beendet hat. Ein Ergebnis eines magischen Momentes, in dem wir offen waren und uns der Leistungswille fasziniert hat, den Stephan Lichtsteiner ausstrahlt. Und plötzlich sind wir drei Marken, die sich bei uns finden, vordergründig komplett anders sind und im Kern doch von denselben Werten und Zielen getrieben werden – nein, dieselben Ziele lieben und jeden Tag aufs Neue von ihnen verführt werden.
